Choosing to Move through the Fear

Fire

Most people assume that because I often write about courage, bravery & confidence that I must be pretty fearless. But the fact is I’m actually one who- in the moment- gets scared by almost anything.
.
A paradox, because I am also a woman who has what some may call crazy visions of herself doing really edgy, oftentimes dangerous things. And Lord do I have fear of them- my horse trainers know 🤦🏼‍♀️- but I don’t let it stop me. I may slow down or draw a boundary. 🔥But I don’t stop🔥
.
This picture was over 3 years ago. I had NO idea that this photo shoot would involve fire dancing 🔥I had casually mentioned to the photographer that I had a vision of fire dancing once & she took the liberty to make it happen. I found out 3 hours into the shoot what we were doing next 😳
.
Was I scared? Oh hell yes you know it.
Did I want to run away? You betcha.
But as you can see- I didn’t run.
.
I took 5 million deep breaths, started small & built my courage as the night went on with harder tool & moves.
.
It was this experience that brought me face-to-face with ALL the areas I was avoiding for fear not of failing, but of getting hurt.
.
I believe most entrepreneurs & successful women aren’t afraid of failure necessarily as most want to think, but rather are more scared of getting hurt in the process. Failure we can handle. But pain? Oh hell no.
.
So how do we prepare for the inevitable failures- and the pain that may come with them? We train ourselves to get comfortable in uncomfortable situations.
.
For me, I choose situations that put my body in danger because it’s such a head game for me. I’m pretty strong physically, so I trust that strength & stretch my brain to know implicitly that my body has got me.
.
For each of us, the type of challenge will differ. Sometimes the physical might not scare you at all but the emotional has your stomach in knots- so go there.
.
Or you might not trust your body at all, so you use your emotional intelligence to train your body to trust.
.
What’s important, is getting real about what the fear is & going there.
.
Doesn’t mean you need to fire dance or ride horses like I do- but going into the fear & moving with it= life-changing🔥
