Carlsbad 5000

Another Sunday, another race 👑 It seems spring is when most local races take place & this week our hometown hosted the Carlsbad 5000- aka the World’s Fastest Race.

It’s a 5K with seven separate races- from elite athletes {a World Record was tied here today} to ‘party people’ with an option to do 4 of these starts for a total of 20K for the day (12.4 miles). Yesterday I decided to go for the whole thing 🔥 I’ve been feeling GREAT since my Half-Marathon last week & wanted to challenge my excuses once & for all and

I had the opportunity to run four 5K races {with small breaks in-between} starting with Masters Men, Masters Women, 39 & under men and 39 & under women.

There were about 200 of us doing the All Day option out of almost 10,000 so we formed a bit of a club around each other- cheering for & supporting one another.

Matt ran the first race with me then cheered me on for the other 3.

Each race had it’s own flavor & lesson, from humbly being passed by men in their 70’s to listening to dudes in their 20’s complain of hangovers, to the Masters women not giving a damn about what anyone thought of them & rocking fun costumes, to the women in my age group being solid support & smiles all the way.

Carlsbad 5000 was my first race back last year after an 11 year hiatus. I remember STRUGGLING to finish those 3.1 miles & wanting to cry it felt so hard.

Today, I ran all 4 individual races faster than that race only a year ago- at a minute per mile faster than last week’s half 😳- and still had room for more.

Now to prep for the next beast to conquer: San Diego Rock & Roll MARATHON in June.

That’s right- I’m going for it 👊🏻🏃‍♀️👑 You never know what’s possible when you get out of your own way, have patience with the process & drop the story about why you can’t do something.

You might just surprise yourself with how strong & fierce you truly are 🔥🔥🔥
